This is a very snazzy bag for carrying up to a 13 inch laptop (with power brick and plug), tablet device notebook or other such work/study basics. The clever strap is a joy to use and is much less fussy than the one on the classic S-Bag. In the photo, you can see two equal-sized pockets which are the right size for only 8 inch tablets. So if you have something bigger, like, it will need to go in the main compartment. As a warning, a 15 inch laptop is probably not going to fit without a struggle.

As the bag is quite slim I am no longer tempted to overstuff it with “things that I might need” as is the case when I use my S-Bag. Zipped up and with the flap fastened down, it feels more like a fairing, rather than a sail, on the front of the bike. Off the bike, the bag is really easy to carry over the shoulder and it looks great.

I love this bag. Not only have I slimed down what I carry out, it is very easy to sling across my shoulder and I love the little pocket underneath for my Oyster card as it makes it easier for me to carry my bike through the barriers without fishing for my card.

The clip on the strap is also a nice touch.

I was really looking forward to getting this bag, it took two weeks for it to arrive at my local Brompton retailer so by the time it finally got here I was bursting with anticipation. I have just bought my first Brompton and have been totally blown away with every aspect of it and, because I am a bloke that likes a bag, thought I would buy one to put on the front of my new pride and joy and give my Timbuk2 a rest. The bag looks great on the webpage, yes it was smaller than my existing one but lets be honest, most of us carry more than we need and this would make me think about what I haul around needlessly. I have a 13in laptop and the first review (above) suggested that this was the perfect size for this and Brompton’s description of a ‘modern update to the classic satchel, the Shoulder Bag is a practical and stylish option for a day out in the city’ was all I needed to know. I jumped on the bike and ordered one from my local dealer, sorry I just like supporting my local shop.

But then it arrived. Where do I start? The thing that hit me first was how big the frame structure was as an overall percentage of the product. This wasn’t reflected in any of the pictures. I wonder how long I would be carrying it before I got bruised? Secondly, yes it will take a 13in laptop, but only just and the zip on the top of the bag leaves a gap on each end so if there is any rain I would be worried. The canvas may be Teflon coated but it really doesn’t feel ‘heavy’ to me. I know the description does say ‘offers a degree of water resistance’ but, bearing in mind the strength of the Brompton brand and the fact that it is a bag that sits on the front of a bike, I didn’t realise the degree would be that low! I just don’t think this bag has been designed and to me is just not worth the money, so I took it back. I am really disappointed!
